11 unforgettable wines to sip & serve at your Super Bowl party

“Pour Me Some Wine: A Toast to the Mama Sisterhood” co-written by Leah Speer and Trina Epp.

Not everyone who loves a good Super Bowl party drinks beer. In fact, most of the women I’ve spent the past few Super Bowls with have indeed been drinking a crisp white or a velvety red. A recent article in “The New York Times” supports this stating, “wine sales have been steadily growing faster than beer sales, especially around Super Bowl time, a reflection of the changing preferences of younger fans and an increase in women who watch the country’s biggest sporting event.”

I just happen to be that woman who is becoming interested in the mechanics of the game, but I’d choose my shiraz over a Bud anytime…especially during the big game.  If you’re planning on the same, we’ve come up with 11 unforgettable wines to sip & serve at your Super Bowl 50 party:

2013 Wild Horse Reserve Merlot Paso Robles – The aromas of Bing cherries, vanilla, clove and cinnamon in this smooth red will have you feeling as cozy as a Denver Broncos fan rallying her team while nestled by a fireplace in a ski chalet in Vail.

Panther Creek Pinot Gris – “Light and zippy on the palate” this crisp white pairs well with this lively team hungry for their first win.

Blitz Riesling – When players are sent in to rush the quarterback, sip on this refreshing white boating of peach and apple.

Bootleg Red Blend 2012 – You won’t need to hold your breath when the other team’s quarterback fakes a handoff to the running back and runs in the opposite direction—this velvet red blend will be sure to ease your angst.

Blindside Margaret River Classic 2014  – With the tropical flavors of this white wine, you’ll be whisked away to the islands. The sound of Conga drums hush the pounding of your heart when your quarterback is tackled from the blind side.

2009 De Lisio ‘Quarterback’ Cabernet Blend – Aromoas and flavors of black cherry, blackberry, dried herbs and pepper, this Cabernet blend will be the star of your festivity!

The Sheriff Red Blend 2012 – This bold red blend of blend of Petite Sirah, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache is as polished and refined as the Denver Bronco quarterback, Peyton Manning “The Sheriff”.

Cam Collection 2013 Monterey County Pinot Noir  – Aromas of cherries and raspberry are just as refreshing as Cam Newton, the luminous quarterback for the Carolinas Panthers.

Hail Mary Vintage 2013 – This aromatic white is the perfect celebrant when your team makes a long pass thrown to the end zone as time is running out scoring that game winning touchdown.

2011 Girardet Cellars Touchdown Red – Pleasant and juicy, this red wine will pair perfectly with your very own end zone celebration…no matter how many there might be!

Clinton Vineyards Victory White 2012 – Since there can only be one winner of Super Bowl 50, this white is perfect for celebrating your team’s triumph!

Do you prefer wine over beer with your football?
