8 weight loss tips to help you ditch the excuses

Last week, I tried to keep myself from starting this series Lose Weight, Drink Wine since Hurricane Matthew was predicted to affect us. The excuses raced through my mind on my second day of this new, healthy lifestyle o’ mine.

If we have to evacuate, how am I supposed to suddenly hit the road with three kids, staying in a hotel, and eat well?

Make healthy choices wherever you end up…whether the gas station hello, almonds or one of the many fast food restaurants that now offer healthier choices such as salads and grilled chicken or fish.

If we are on the road, running from here to there…how could I possibly work out?

Ain’t it groovy how we can play YouTube videos straight from our laptops and iPads?!! Put on a cartoon for the kiddos and get movin’ in that small area of the hotel sister! MAKE IT WORK!

If we hunker down, and lose electricity, how can I eat smart with canned foods and cereal as my only options. 

Enough already!

Save the excuses. It's not about having time. It's about making time. If it matters, you will make the time.

They’re all just excuses! Because when you really, really decide to go down this road to truly living a better, healthier lifestyle–you won’t let any excuse get in your way. You won’t want to make excuses anymore…so you won’t.

You DO have time to eat healthier. You DO have time to get fit. One way to beat the excuses is to take things one step at a time and don’t overwhelm yourself. Here are some tips I’ve found I believe will help me…hope they’ll help you too:

  1. Water – Drink a full glass of cold water first thing in the morning.
  2. Plan meals ahead of time – When you know you’re going to be busy and you plan ahead, you’re less likely to skip meals because you don’t have to think about it. When you’re hungry, just stick to your plan, eat, and move on.
  3. Prep your food – I just found a fabulous tip on making smoothie freezer packs. Or try cutting up your veggies as soon as you get home from the grocery and store them in a place you can access them easily when you get snacky. 
  4. Working out – For the longest time I would tell myself If you can’t make it to the gym for a full  one hour workout, why bother. All or nothing. Of course, that didn’t deliver results. Big surprise! So, for once, I thought I’d try to do something the “right” way and it’s working. Start with one of those Pinterest at-home workouts or give in to a 20-minute DVD, my favorite from my skinny past was Jillian Michael’s Body Revolution. Once you’ve conquered those, then step it up to something more.
  5. Switch to green tea instead of coffee – I know, I know! But, it can be done!! Isn’t that morning cup o’ Joe just like a warm hug…you’ll get that same warmth from green tea, PLUS it’ll cleanse the toxins in your body. Doesn’t that sound fabulous!
  6. Pick one thing to drop from your diet, today – Like, soda. Or sweets. Or alcohol. If you find it hard to cut everything at once, drop one thing until you tackle it…then take all that pride, and drop the next. 
  7. Canned veggies and fruits – Ha! I don’t necessarily mean to eat…I prefer fresh fruits and veggies. But, grab a can and while you’re picking up the toys and clothes strewn across your home in one arm, do curls with your opposite. 
  8. Use your babes – Whether a baby you can hold while you dip your body into a lunge or a preschooler who wants to mimic whichever fitness trainer is on your TV, you can get your workout in with kids around. 

It’s hard! I’m right there with you! But, it’s doable. Better than that, it’s life changeable. You can be a whole new you just one step at a time when you leave the excuses behind.
