A letter to my son on his fourth birthday

My son, today you are four.

You are growing up so fast, right before my eyes.  Your legs getting so long, you are tall enough to see out of that window.

This year you started preschool.  Your teachers glow as they report to me that you have a heart of gold. You are the first one to help out any classmate  in need – be it a broken toy, a stuck drawer or to find the letter “G”.

You make friends so easily and take lead naturally.  Sometimes I think you’re a bit bossy, then I talk to other mommies and find that it’s a part of being a 4-year-old.  You are so curious and want to know about everything!  If you don’t understand, you ask.  You love to learn.

You enjoy music immensely. Thanks to me, some of your favorite songs are Gotye’s “Somebody I Used To Know,” Black Eyed Peas “I Gotta Feeling,” and Miley Cyrus’ “Party In The USA” (I know your dad loves all of this – ha!).  Thanks to Grandma, Pink’s “Let’s Get This Party Started,” and A-ha’s “Take on Me.” Thanks to your dad, you love Jack White’s “I’m Shakin’,” Foster The People’s “Don’t Stop,” and The Beach Boys’ “Barbara Ann.”  And now that you have brand new speakers you can listen to all those songs, all day long!

One of my favorite things these days is to watch you and your little brother play together.  He happily takes the role of prisoner as you act the cop. Of course you to wrestle and fight like the brothers that you are, it is obvious the love you have for your best friend.  He adores you!

You are a sweetheart and I love you all the way to the moon and back!  No matter how big you get, you’ll always be my little boy.

Love you forever, mom
