Black Box Malbec Wine Review

Wine Review: Black Box Wines – Malbec

You like wine. So do we. Let's Be Friends. First Bottle On Us.

If you’ve known me in the last three months, you’ve heard me talk about the Black Box wines, especially the Malbec. I said I’d never be the one to buy box wine. It’s so much classier in the bottle. But, when the stress of the holidays hit and I was on a shopping budget (to spend money on others and not so much myself) – I had to give in to the ramblings I’d heard about this mysterious black box.

To my surprise, it only cost about $19.98 or something like that at my local Walmart. The slender, black box with gold lettering slid perfectly next to my coffee pot of the the same colors; smartly blending in with my kitchen.  The easy to assemble spout made pouring wine a treat. Returning for my second glass, it never judged. There wasn’t a half empty bottle taunting me. The most brilliant part: I didn’t have to return to the store three days later for another bottle…the box lasted—and stayed delightfully fresh—beyond a week.

Why box wine? It’s lightweight, portable and unbreakable. It’s also eco-friendlier, requiring less energy to produce and transport than bottled wine.

Reviews from wine experts:

Review from Winecentric blog: I challenge you to find a better Malbec for $7 or less in the marketplace. Overall, one of the better boxed red wines I’ve tasted. Malbec is a varietal rapidly growing in popularity due to its easy-to-drink, smooth and fruit-driven characteristics. The boxed packaging obviously keeps this wine fresher for a longer period of time

Review on Snooth: This is a great everyday wine. I would suggest you purchase a one liter glass carafe and “pour” the amount you intend to drink and let it decant for about thirty minutes or so. Perfect!

Review from examiner.com: “The nose contains bits of dry earthiness backed with tobacco, chocolate and heady floral and cherry aromas. But, being true to Malbec, the flavor is definitely more blackberry and blueberry than it is cherry.”

From the Black Box Wines site:

Tasting Notes: With heady floral and cherry aromas, our Malbec features a dry, medium-bodied palate, robust structure and well-balanced acidity for a pleasingly smooth finish. Enhancing its luscious blueberry notes are hints of tobacco, violet and chocolate.

Pairing Ideas: Perfect with steaks, grilled meats, mild cheeses, hearty Italian dishes and savory tapas.

Black Box also available in Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Riesling, Sweet Red, Sauvignon Blanc, and Moscato.

Cheers! Leah

Hi, don’t worry, your kids will all leave, and luscious Black Box Malbec will still be around, just like your favourite books. And you’ll trade up for a better husband!
